Introduction
Hi, I’m Tyler Mitchell from Annapolis, Maryland. I’m an up and coming junior at Gettysburg College studying computer science (major), math and biology (minor). I plan on furthering my studies by going to graduate school for biomedical engineering after graduating in 2020. I am a type 1 diabetic, which is my inspiration behind my project for this summer. Outside of the classroom I am a varsity baseball player here at Gettysburg and a member of the ACM computer science club.
Goals
By the end of this program, I hope to have developed a specific set of skills that allows me to design and engineer medical technology. As a type 1 diabetic I have been exposed to issues with medical technology my entire life, and I have realized the flaws that many systems of medical technology hold. With recent advancements in the 3d printing industry, I believe 3d printing technology can make medical technology more accessible and cheaper. The ultimate goal of this project is to create a working insulin pump that has all of the functionality of a mass produced insulin pump, all while resolving a host of issues that I have come to find with them.
